Scattered throughout our island home we call the UK are countless ancient and ruined buildings, settlements and monuments. Signs of our ancestors and past heritage. Nature has a way of reclaiming these places. When humans move out the natural world moves back in. There is something primaeval, something exhilarating about these ancient spaces. Not only are they windows into our past they are also stark warnings that our society won't last forever. This is alluded to in the Quran in many places for example Surah Ghafir, Verse 82:
Have they not travelled through the earth and seen what was the end of those before them? They were more numerous than them and mightier in strength, and in the traces (they have left behind them) in the land, yet all that they used to earn availed them not.
