The Dome. ©Ian Garrett 2016, Digital Painting. Varying Sizes.
Jerusalem is a city that has long been at the centre of the three Abrahamic faiths, a city of peace and unity. A region that is sacred to Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Unfortunately, in recent years the peace has been fractured by much tension and conflict. It was this situation that compelled me to show the beautiful grandeur of this icon of the holy city. I have tried to portray this sense of conflict and friction with my choice of tones as well as a feeling of hope of a return to a peaceful future. It is a realistically detailed surreal graphic art style that brings the Dome of the rock to your home.
The Dome of the Rock is one of the most famous mosques in the world and is situated on the same site as the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. It is often mistaken for the Al-Aqsa mosque which is the third holiest site in Islam. The Mosque is built over a rock that is believed to be the very spot that Prophet Mohammed ascended up to the Heavens on the Night of his Night Journey.
